#365FeministSelfie Asks Regular People: "Who Are YOU Wearing?"

According to the news, social media newsfeeds and hilarious side-by-side comparison photos that I've shared here, it's apparently award season.

who-are-you-wearing-2Some awesome bloggers have created a #365FeministSelfie project, and I'm way too lazy to look up the whole concept, but it seems to be about real life, no-fuss, no-filter selfies, being okay with yourself.

Some blogs that I follow have participated in Mom-version called:

Who are YOU wearing?

Link up here to join in! In parody of all the pomp and glam associated with the entire day of any awards show, moms are sharing selfies of their daily grind-glam. It's a good idea to fight the ridiculous, unrealistic, shiny-magazine overly airbrushed, plastic look of Fantasy people and tell ourselves looking like REAL PEOPLE is okay. I'm all about that 'okay with yourself' life.

At the risk of making myself look silly, yet again, I'll take one for the team and support this concept. This is my current favorite selfie.

I'm wearing perm rods, by NoIdeaWhoDesignsTheseTheyWereMadeInThe70's and a purple towel and cape from my friend's salon, The Lee Alan Salon.

I get my hair permed once a year because:

I miss the 80's, it's never too soon for retro, and it makes my difficult hair ready-to-go.

Under the cape I'm wearing ComfyWear:

Shirt by Lane Bryant, as they seem to be the only place that makes shirts to fit real women with real lady lumps.

Pants by  by whatever designer had clothes in plus sizes at the Goodwill the day I needed pants. Sometimes this is actually from the men's section, if I can't fit into anything in the women's.

PRO-TIP: Some men's pants are extremely comfy.

I shop by price first (always 2nd hand,) because it's more important for me to be home with my children than have things like designer clothes, which go out of style BEFORE you even buy them according to the fashion industry.

I'm sure my Comfy look will be all the rage as soon as this look hits the magazines.

I can't wait to hear what Joan Rivers has to say about this look.

Stay comfy! That's my motto.

  1. I love that feminist selfie idea! And I've bought men's dress pants for years, darling, simply YEARS! They fit me perfectly from waist to crotch and need tailoring for the legs only. The only downside is dealing with the occasionally snotty salespeople at the men's wear store.

    1. It IS a great idea. I know I won't be able to keep up with it every day, but I post "natural" (trying not to say horrible) pictures of myself all the time. My self worth isn't entirely tied up in my appearance. Which also makes it easier to buy 2nd hand, and not care about men's pants. I only buy 2nd hand, I didn't think about how much fun it might be to buy them NEW! I volunteer with transgender people, it would be interesting to have that experience.

  2. I always say a bottle of bleach and a pound of makeup will make anyone look good, and dammit, I'm sticking to that. You won't see me posting any au-natural selfies!! Haha. But I admire you guys for doing it. Very cute pic!

    1. About 15, maybe even 10 years ago the idea of this picture being seen by ANYONE, much less on the internet might have freaked me out. I'm not sure if I've given up giving a shit or if I've risen above outter appearances, which makes me sound better, go with that.
I would love to see you making stuffed peppers with your fake British husband in jammies, bit I'll settle for the lovely trashy stories you share on your blog. They're hilarious and very real.

  4. LOL...I am still giggling at your picture, Joy! This Bloppy Blogger post/blog hop has been so much fun to read. Kudos to you and the rest of your merry posters for being so brave! I would participate but I'm way behind the curve. Not afraid to humble/humor myself. Just still playing catchup. You rock :)

    1. Thanks. I hear you on the 'way behind' I'm usually the LAST person to any blog hop, probably including this one which went live on Monday or Tuesday and I did not link up until yesterday. D'oh!

  5. I am wearing a pair of purple striped pajama bottoms. I believe my mother gave them to me. When I was pregnant. (My youngest is almost two.) I cannot remember the last time I actually wore a pair of matching pajamas. On my top, I am wearing a lovely white long sleeve t-shirt, and because it was my Evening Attire (translates No Bra), I am wearing another yellow t-shirt over that to keep from completely freaking out my pre-pubescent sons with my now National Geographic ta-ta's. At the moment, my two year old is sleeping on my chest, and so I have an XXL University of Texas Longhorn jacket on one arm - another gift from my mother who tends to have problems with sizes. It is a Life of Luxury. Am I remembering right that you are local to me? (Saint Charles, IL?) If so, please check out my Facebook group page Fox River Mamas This was the doctor with whom I spoke -- http://www.fifthaveprimarycare.com/mee.../reshma-ajmere-m_d/ or my new website www.foxrivermamas.com - Have a great one. 1. hahaha my picture doesn't exactly match all of the Victoria's Secret matching loungewear and/or runner's gear of the other contestants, does it? That's okay, this is me. Weird and comfy.

    1. Even worse, tiny perm rods! And THAT SMELL? Has not changed in 30 years! For one year, my hairdresser was using a different kind that smelled very pleasant but they were SO EXPENSIVE and didn't work any better. Back to hell smell. It's better than curling my hair every day, that's for sure. Glad you got a laugh!

  10. You are just hilarious! I have to tell you I can't remember the last time I actually saw perm rods but you rock 'em...that's for sure! As for comfy clothes....hell, yes! I think about high school days when I used to lay on the bed, suck in my gut and pull up my zipper with a coat hanger. Brilliance at it's best! Today that sounds like being drawn and quartered...STAY COMFY!

    1. hahaha I almost did that with jeans once, then the zipper BROKE! Glad it wasn't a borrowed pair of jeans! It's been a LONG time since I've forced myself into pants like that. Hopefully never again, I'm a stretchy pants person. So yes, I stay comfy!
