5MF: Tree

5 Minute Friday, which if you're not familiar with, click this link and link up! It's fast, 5 minutes, that's the rule, take 5 minutes and don't over-think, over-edit, just write. Love.

Then when you link up, click the post right before yours. Read, comment with a positive message. You can read and comment on as many as you like after that!

Today's subject is: Tree.

I love trees, not in that "My Strange Addiction" way, or whatever that other show is that has people licking cars and that pastor guy who fell in love with the sound board at his church, in more of a soul-love than a body-love.

I do apologize if this is sounding like a weird beer commercial from the 70's, I'm a little off my game lately. Not that there's anything AT ALL WRONG with beer commercials from the 70's, I wish it were my job to write that kind of marketing, but there's a time and a place.

This is a great time of year for trees, they show their beautiful colors, before shedding the leaves for the winter sleep, to grow a beautiful new set in the spring. One of those Circle of Life kind of things. This time of year makes me reflect for that reason. While I'm raking, I think about what has happened in my life since the previous fall, what new things have come into my life, what things have gone out, etc.

We have some great trees in ComfyTown, but my absolute favorite of all time is our magnolia tree, which I inexplicably named Angie the moment I saw her. Magnolias in the spring are one of the most beautiful sights on this 3rd rock from the sun, and she is beautiful all year long.

She inspired my first Wordless Wednesday post, I will link it at the bottom if you want to see the pictures. WW
is really a challenge for me, because my brain is so very pregnant with words. Like 41 weeks preggers and "GET THESE OUT ALREADY!"

Anyway, Angie provides us with shade, her leaves stay until late Fall, when most of the other trees are already nekked for the winter. Sometimes that means cleaning up leaves in the snow, but hey, high maintenance things, just like people, are the most beautiful. That might sound shallow, but it serves a purpose.

Angie's overwhelming beauty reminds me about everyday miracles. We all get caught up in the 'blah blah blah' of life, and forget how beautiful the world is, even when the people of the world can be mean and ugly. If RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW is a beautiful miracle, you have to just stop, breathe and be glad for the amazing wonder of it all.

I have at LEAST a hundred pictures of this tree, in all seasons but I can't seem to access our network right now, so all I have saved to my hard-drive are these silly memes I made with pictures of Angie. This is the magnolia tree in the spring.

I don't remember why I made this, but nevermind the words, look at THE TREE!
So this one just has the flowers that fell, but this made me laugh. Hopefully it will make you laugh, too!

Other pictures of her are in this Wordless Wednesday post.

  1. Glad I found your blog - will have to follow - looking funny, I have always liked weird - and hey, I attended all of those meetings, but for the most part, have decided to stay the same anyhow. Love Magnolia trees as they remind me of my time deep in Mississippi but you are up north like me it seems. Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. If you like weird, you are in the RIGHT PLACE! hahaha
I am just Southwest of Chicago. I know these are huge in the South, Harry Connick Jr. sings about sitting under a magnolia tree, and he's right. This is the THEE most awesome tree. The people who lived here before us built a little patio under the tree, so you could sit and just enjoy it. We spend a LOT of time there!
You have a wonderful weekend as well!

  2. Canada is too cold for magnolia trees so I must live vicariously through your blog!

    1. Thank all the gods for the parks!! I've never been but I have seen many pictures and NY parks are so beautiful they're featured in lots of movies and shows. It's great to step outside of the concrete jungle for a minute and instantly be in beautiful nature.

  4. Thank you for introducing me to the concept of my brain being pregnant with words. After putting out our seventh book in the past 3 years, you've now reminded me that we're the literary equivalent of the Duggars.
